应兰州大学核科学与技术学院邀请，英国曼彻斯特大学的Pavle Mocilac博士将于2019年12月21日-24日来兰州大学开展学术交流活动并作学术报告。
报告题目：Radiophobia in society

报告摘要：
Are you afraid of radiation? If yes, why do you afraid? Fear of radiation is often born out of ignorance and hence is like many other similar fears people and society face, but our lack of ability to sense radiation makes it especially spooky. This fear is often stoked by misconceptions peddled by media and art, but it’s most important impetus is coming from the outdated scientific models we still use. Many people believe that nuclear incidents have killed huge number of people, yet, there is a mounting amount of evidence that fear of radiation is actually more dangerous than the radiation itself.
报告人简介：
Pavle Mocilac, Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences, Dublin City University in2012 with the thesis “Structural systematics of drug-like molecules: from benzamides to tennimides”. After his graduation, he started his research career as Radiation Technical Advisor and currently acting RadiationProtection Officer/Head of Radiation Safety Unit in University of Manchester. His extensive experience in radiation protection and radiation safety in research laboratories; also experience in research of radiochemistry, chemistry of uraniumand crystal structure analysis.
